Em 1954, Getúlio Vargas sofreu uma oposição da mídia e de uma parte minoritária do Exército — mais substancialmente da Aeronáutica e da Marinha, e acabou cometendo suicídio. Um dos pretextos da campanha não podia deixar de ser, como sempre foi, a corrupção. Porém, a verdadeira razão para derrubar o governo era outra, como confessou o “Rei da Mídia” à época, Assis Chateaubriand: a Petrobrás.
Criada em 1953 por Getúlio, chegou ao governo Geisel mesmo com a crise mundial do petróleo, em 1973. Graças às descobertas da Bacia de Campos, ocorreu a viabilização do ponto de vista da tecnologia para o Pré-Sal. Incólume às tentativas de aglutinação por multinacionais estrangeiras durante os governos de Lula e Dilma Rousseff, hoje a estatal sofre um sério risco de ser desmontada em prol do projeto de desgoverno vigente. A Petrobrás era um denominador comum entre a história de Getúlio e a história de Lula — e não é o único.
Em “LULA NA LAVA JATO E OUTRAS HISTÓRIAS AINDA MAL CONTADAS”, novo livro de José Ribeiro, são destacados momentos como este da história do Brasil que culminaram no julgamento do ex-presidente da República, Luiz Inácio “Lula” da Silva, no dia 7 de abril de 2018, e que desde muito antes ameaçam a democracia no nosso país.
Ao longo da narrativa dividida em 27 capítulos, foram reconstituídos os dois anos de perseguição judicial ao ex-presidente, desde a sua condução coercitiva, em março de 2016, até sua prisão. Neste espaço de tempo, houve também um desmonte do sistema de garantias constitucionais aos direitos e à liberdade dos cidadãos, levando a um ápice de abuso autoritário que, inclusive, levou ao suicídio do reitor da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Luiz Carlos Cancellier.
“O fio da história se arma em teias. José Augusto Ribeiro vale-se de sua agudeza, experiência e memória raras para narrar, inclusive com revelações surpreendentes, a Lava Jato e o golpe por meio dos principais acontecimentos que antecedem e concorrem com a operação”, afirma um dos editores do livro, Sálvio Nienkötter.

José Augusto Ribeiro, 80, é jornalista desde 1957. Trabalhou, entre outros, no Jornal do Brasil, Última Hora, TV Globo e TV Bandeirantes. Foi editor-chefe durante dez anos do jornal O Globo e assessor de imprensa de Tancredo Neves na campanha presidencial de 1984-1985 e na de Leonel Brizola em 1994. É autor dos livros “De Tiradentes a Tancredo, uma história não-oficial das Constituições do Brasil” (1987), “Nossos Direitos na Nova Constituição” (1988), “A Era Vargas” (três volumes, 2001) e “Tancredo Neves, a Noite do Destino” (2015).
